Lives can change in an instant

The lives of myself, Dahlia Guttman, my husband Michael Hollander, and our other children Ari and Lielle, changed instantly and forever on January 13, 2020, when our daughter Ronnie Joy died of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).

Although I have medical knowledge as a family physician, SUDC was unknown to my colleagues, including a pediatric team. I was left confused;  not having any closure, not knowing how to heal or move forward.

We don’t know the cause of SUDC, nor how to prevent it, but what we can do is create a better support system to help grieving families and raise awareness and advocate for research so that one day, this cause of death becomes preventable.

Meet Ronnie

Ronnie Joy Hollander was an exceptionally bright and beautiful little girl who died suddenly and without explanation on January 13, 2020, at 2 years and 3 months of age. Her death, being unexplained, falls under a category of children's deaths called Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).

Ronnie brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She was a silly little girl, full of energy, with a sweet zest for life. She had the most beautiful deep hazel eyes and light blonde hair. She didn't have much hair on her head but her family would joke that what she was missing in hair she made up in brain cells, spirit and personality. She dragged her little bunny lovie absolutely everywhere that she went.

While Ronnie is no longer physically with us, her "joie de vivre" lives on every day through her pictures and memories and her ability to continue to inspire others to bring pure love and goodness into this world.
